In the world of manufacturing and engineering, powder coating has become popular as a versatile way to efficiently enhance the durability, aesthetics, and even functionality, of metal parts. These specific coatings prevent ferrous and non-ferrous metals from corroding, offering excellent protection from the elements whilst improving the overall appearance of all metals.
The powder coating process consists of several stages:
- Surface preparation: this stage involves cleaning and often-times pre-treating the surface of the metal to ensure optimal powder adhesion. Shearfab have a automatic phosphate pre-treatment plant.
- Powder application: during this stage the powder is sprayed to the metal part, where our team ensures an even coat each time. This is electrostatic adhesion.
- Powder curing: after the powder is applied, the coated object is heated, usually to 180C, in a curing oven, where the powder melts and fuses into a perfect coating.
- We can apply and BS or RAL colours in a range of finishes, semi-gloss, smooth or textured.
Powder coating offers a range of benefits to manufacturers and consumers alike. Powder coating provides a tough, chip and scratch resistant finish, ensuring the objects maintain their appearance and functionality.
Powder coating has completely changed the manufacturing process, providing a durable, aesthetically pleasing, and environmentally friendly coating for a wide range of products.
At Shearfab we have over 3,000 sq. ft. of in-house powder coating facility.
